Footpath called for in Rathangan
Áras Chill Dara
Kildare County Council is looking into a new footpath which would connect a rural townland to Rathangan, with the local authority likely to need land from nearby property owners for the project if it advances.
Cllr Kevin Duffy brought forward a motion at the most recent meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) proposing that Kildare County Council looks into the construction of a footpath from “Mountprospect into Rathangan and add it to the Roads Programme 2027 for consideration”.
Mountprospect is situated around 2.5km south of Rathangan.
MD engineer Carthac de Brí said that his office “will assess the suitability of the area for the construction of a footpath”. His written response added that the area is outside the 50kph speed limit and the council would likely need to use or buy land from nearby property owners to construct a footpath “according to minimum standards”.
Cllr Duffy welcomed the report and told the meeting that a footpath “would provide connectivity and accessibility for a number of residents in that area”.
