KILDARE County Council has rejected a call for free sunscreen dispensers to be installed at Kerdiffstown Park, Naas.

The local authority said that “there are no resources to put them in place or to maintain them”.

Cllr Bill Clear brought forward a motion at June’s meeting of Naas Municipal District calling for the council to investigate the feasibility of installing the dispensers at the park as a pilot project.

He suggested that council investigate several factors and possibilities. including potential partnerships with organisations such as the Irish Cancer Society.

Senior parks and landscaping officer Simon Wallace said the local authority does not plan to install dispensers, citing a lack of resources. The response said that sun protection is a matter of “individual responsibility”.

Cllr Clear attended the meeting virtually but was not present by the time the motion was discussed. Cllr Ger Dunne proposed the motion on his behalf and cllr Carmel Kelly seconded it. Cllr Kelly indicated that cllr Clear was happy with the response.
