FTD brothers touch down in Kildare
Senator Fiona O'Loughlin with Jordan Adams of FTD Brothers
THE TWO brothers taking on the challenge of running 33 marathons across Ireland to raise funds and awareness for dementia were in Kildare Town for the 32nd leg of their journey.
Jordan and Cian Adams, known as the FTD Brothers, are completing the challenge in memory of their mother Geraldine, who passed away from Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), a rare inherited condition that both brothers may also carry.
The brothers, who are from the small town of Redditch in Worcestershire, began the marathon in Kildare Town on Wednesday, 27 May, before moving onto the last marathon in Dublin.
Kildare Seanad Senator Fiona O’Loughlin met the brothers and their father Glen during their visit to Kildare and praised their efforts in a social media post afterwards.
“Having spoken about them in the Seanad only yesterday, it was an absolute privilege to meet Cian and Jordan Adams, as well as their dad Glen, earlier today in Kildare,” she said.
She described how the brothers had “turned personal tragedy into an inspiring campaign of hope, awareness and action” following the loss of their mother to the illness.
“Despite carrying the inherited gene linked to the condition, they’ve turned personal tragedy into an inspiring campaign of hope, awareness and action after losing their mum to the illness,” she said.
“The support along today’s route was incredible and a real reflection of the compassion and solidarity that exists across Ireland for families affected by dementia.
The senator also highlighted that the brothers’ campaign has already raised more than €1 million for dementia research and support services.
She wished the pair success as they prepare for the final leg of their remarkable challenge.
