Funding stalls Kildare cycleway

THERE'S no immediate prospect of progressing the proposed Athgarvan to Newbridge Pedestrian and Cycleway due to a lack of funding, the recent meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District heard.
Cllr Chris Pender had sought, by way of a question, an update on the project, including current progress, expected timelines, and any outstanding issues preventing the project from advancing to the construction stage.
The report on the matter noted that the delivery of such a project is not included in the current capital programme, future project list or any work programmes in the transport, mobility and open spaces directorate.
Progressing the project would require significant development contributions or grant assistance, and it is not under consideration in the current portfolio of projects.
The councillor accepted the report.
