ONLY six properties in the Athy Municipal District are scheduled to receive a replacement of windows and doors this year on Kildare County Council’s window and door replacement schedule.
This was revealed in an Athy MD meeting when cathaoirleach Aoife Breslin asked the council for an update on the number of units on the 2025 schedule and an update on when the works will begin.
The Housing and Regeneration Department replied that six properties are scheduled for replacements based on the current budget, with works scheduled to start later this year, subject to contractor availability and procurement processes.
The department added that it would address any issues with “faulty or broken windows and doors” and repairs would be carried out “where feasible”.
“Extremely disappointed” with the response, cllr Breslin said: “I’m aware there are estates waiting on window and door repairs and at this rate we’ll never get to it. I don’t see how we’re ever going to replace windows and doors if it’s six a year.”
Cllr Breslin suggested sending a letter to the department to highlight “how inadequate this funding is”.
