A MAN who was allegedly part of a gang with weapons who chased down an individual in a Newbridge estate over two years ago will now have to wait until May to learn his trial date.

The last sitting of Naas District Court in January heard how John Ward (28) of Rosconnell Avenue in Newbridge was arrested that morning on foot of a bench warrant.

According to his arresting officer who gave evidence, Mr Ward made no formal reply to charge.

Judge Desmond Zaidan noted the seldom used charge of S15 charge under the Public Order Act. “Affray? More than one person involved?” he asked.

“Yes, judge. The accused and two family members ... smashed up a car [in Rosconnell Close on 21 January],” he said.

He is also charged under S9 of the Firearms Act, S2 Criminal Damage Act and breach of the peace at Rosconnell Square two days later.

“All three had weapons and they chased another young fella around the estate back in 2023,” said Garda Potter.

“This is very serious,” said the judge.

“We haven’t yet identified this person [alleged victim], but we have captured him on CCTV,” said Garda Potter.

Accepting the state’s need for more time, the judge remanded Mr Ward on continuing bail until 22 May for a book of evidence.
