AN GARDA Síochána Kildare and Carlow have announced a major road safety enforcement campaign ahead of the October Bank Holiday Weekend.

The initiative will see a significant increase in patrols, checkpoints, and targeted enforcement measures across the region, aimed at keeping all road users safe during one of the busiest weekends of the year.

According to Gardaí, the operation will focus on key safety priorities including intoxicated driving, both drink and drug driving, and the enforcement of so-called “lifesaver offences” such as speeding, mobile phone use, and failure to wear seat belts.

Officers will also be working to disrupt criminal activity involving the use of the road network over the weekend.

Motorists can expect an increased Garda presence on roads throughout Kildare and Carlow, with particular attention on offences such as: Speeding, drink and drug driving, dangerous driving, and distracted driving (including mobile phone use).

In a message to the public, Gardaí urged all drivers to take personal responsibility for road safety.

“Never drink or drug drive. Always wear your seat belt. Stay off your phone while driving. Drive within posted speed limits,” the statement read.

“Let’s work together to make our roads safer for everyone this Bank Holiday Weekend.”
