Gardaí treating death of woman in Limerick as murder suicide after suspect’s body found

Gardaí were treating the death of Brazilian native Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa as a murder suicide after the chief suspect’s body was also later found.

Rosa’s body was discovered in an apartment on Cecil Street, Limerick City, around 7.30am on Friday morning.

Around 12 hours later, 7pm on Friday evening, the body of the chief suspect, named locally as Judismar Weslei Batista, also from Brazil, was recovered near Blackrock Castle, Co Cork.

It’s understood Rosa and Batista had been in a long-term relationship and had been sharing the apartment where Ms Rosa was found dead.

A Garda spokesman said: “A male in his 30s who was a person of interest and a line of enquiry in this investigation, has been found deceased.”

“An Garda Síochána continue to investigate the murder of the woman to determine all of the circumstances of her death,” he said.

“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation. An incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on (061) 212400.”

Friends of Rosa’s had been waiting for her outside the apartment building entrance to go to work together last Friday morning, when it is understood Batista walked out of the building and interacted with them.

It’s understood he informed them she would be momentarily down from the apartment. However, when Rosa did not appear her friends raised the alarm.

Gardaí and paramedics were alerted, and Rosa was pronounced dead inside her apartment.

It’s understood she had suffered stab injuries. However, gardaí said they would not be releasing the results of her post-mortem for “operational reasons”.

Gardaí and the Coast Guard had been involved in the recovery of Batista’s body at Blackrock around 7pm Friday. His remains were not immediately identified.

A fund has been established through the Go Fund Me website to raise funds for the repatriation of Ms Rosa’s remains and her funeral costs in her native Sãu Paulo.

Gardaí are not believed to be looking for anyone else as part of their investigations into Ms Rosa’s murder.

She had been working for a cleaning company in Limerick.
