Impending work at rural Kildare junction will slow traffic

Works are set to begin at Maganey Junction in the coming weeks in a bid to slow traffic.

This emerged at September’s meeting of Athy Municipal District, where cllr Veralouise Behan asked the council to confirm whether the local authority has any further plans for works at the junction.

Municipal district engineer Kevin Dunne issued the council’s written response, stating that the junction ‘has been tendered and awarded with works to commence in the coming weeks’.

Cllr Behan said the measure is “going to be very beneficial for young teenagers, in particular, who frequent the river every summer”.

She said that “with the works going in there I know it will continue to slow traffic down”.

Noting what she has observed as less emergency service sirens on the road in recent times, she said: “If this is slowing down traffic and we’re hearing less sirens on that road, it’s a blessing and it’s going to be safer for young teenagers who are looking at their phones as they’re crossing the road these days”.
