BUS stop upgrades are on the way for the south Kildare area.
At the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District (MD), Cllr Veralouise Behan brought forward a motion asking that the council “outlines planned bus stop upgrades in the Athy Municipal District.”
A report issued by Daragh Conlon, acting senior engineer in the projects team at Kildare County Council, stated that bus stop enhancement works are currently being carried out on Local Link Routes 821 (Newbridge to Sallins train station) and 880 (Naas to Carlow), including seven bus stops in the Athy MD. The report added that “a further two stops in Nurney are included in a further work package that has been tendered in Quarter 4 2025.”
It was further detailed that two bus shelters are to be installed in Calverstown once these shelters are provided by the National Transport Authority, and that it is intended to commence a public consultation process in the first quarter of this year for new bus shelters in Narraghmore, Castledermot and Crookstown.
The report also had an update on new location for stops on the Local Link Route 888 (Athy to Allenwood), with 11 stop locations being examined and proposed design work for these stops to be progressed “subject to sufficient resources being available”.
Cllr Behan thanked the council executive for the report and was pleased with the 11 extra locations being considered for route 888. She also expressed her satisfaction with the impact of the local link scheme more generally.
