Jetty suggested for Pollardstown Fen

Pollardstown Fen

KILDARE County Council is to write to the National Parks & Wildlife Service to ask for upgrade works to be carried out at Pollardstown Fen, with the possible provision of a jetty. But first the authority will consult with the voluntary group involved with the fen, a Special Area of Conservation.

This is the result of a motion at the December meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District put down by Cllr Tom McDonnell.

"A few people have been on to me to put a jetty in there," the councillor said in presenting his motion. "Do we have an input there?"

Cllr Suzanne Doyle noted that "there's an awful lot happening" at the fen and there is a very dedicated voluntary group active around it.

"It would be premature to send a letter without checking with them." She added the suggestion that the group be invited to make a presentation to the members.

After some discussion it was agreed to consult with the voluntary group and subsequently write to National Parks & Wildlife.
