Cavan's Jimmy Higgins has landed one of the biggest jobs in all of Kildare sport as he has been appointed the new man in charge of the Naas senior footballers.

The role became vacant when Philly McMahon stepped down after only one season in charge - which of course ended with that loss to Athy in the county final

McMahon, himself an eight-time All-Ireland winner, had been charged with delivering a fifth consecutive Kildare SFC for Naas, but the drive for five was brought to sudden halt in October, ultimately spelling the end for the Dubliner.

The appointment of Higgins is a hard reset fro Naas, who will have already begun their quest to regain the Kildare SFC title in 2026.

The Cavan native led Emmet Óg Killoe to Longford SFC glory this year and also guided his own club Crosserlough to a Cavan senior title title in 2020.

Higgins - who is a nephew of the legendary Cavan footballer Mick Higgins - becomes Naas' fifth manager in as many years.

Despite the high turnover, Naas delivered four Dermot Bourke Cups in that period and went on to contested Leinster club SFC finals against Kilmacud Crokes in both 2021 and 2023.
