BRO BOSCO CUP SEMI FINAL

COLAISTE MHUIRE MULLINGAR 2-11 MAYNOOTH EDUCATION CAMPUS 0-8

THE journey of Maynooth Education Campus in this season’s Bro Bosco Cup came to an end at the penultimate stage in Killucan on Tuesday afternoon as they were unable to stem a very strong second half display from Mullingar’s Scoil Mhuire.

The three day turnaround from Saturday’s shock but deserved victory over Colaiste Choilm at the quarter final stage was probably too much for the combined Maynooth Post Primary School/Maynooth Community School combined team as they were very much a spent force during the second half hour in Killucan.

Maynooth recovered from conceding a goal inside three minutes to draw level by the 11th minute. The Kildare schools’ team would probably be disappointed in conceding the early goal which was scored by Colaiste Mhuire full forward, Oisin O’Hara, after the ball came back off the crossbar.

The north Kildare outfit quickly reasserted themselves and three points without reply from Ciaran Dunne, Paddy Ryan and Darragh Devine brought them level for the first of three times in the opening half and a Liam Jennings free put them in front for the only time in the game in the 12th minute. Three points from sharpshooter, Will Scahill, one from play, put the Mullingar side into a 1-3 to 0-4 lead inside the last ten minutes of the half but two points from frees from the equally sharp, Jennings, made it 1-4 to 0-6 at half time.

Two more Scahill points and one from captain, Matty Thornton, put Colaiste Mhuire firmly in the driving seat in the third quarter and although a Jennings free pulled one back for Maynooth the Mullingar school outscored their opponents 1-4 to 0-1 in the final quarter. The goal came on 52 minutes when corner forward, Conor Heffernan, riffled home, soccer style past Josh Flood in the Maynooth goals.
