What the extension is proposed to look like for 1484 Castle Park

Kildare County Council plan on retrofitting and extending a house in Kildangan.

A presentation of the proposed plans at 1484 Castle Park, Kildangan was given at last week’s Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District by a council official.

The meeting heard that the project will roughly double the size of the property from a three-bed, four-person home to a four-bed, seven-person property.

Following a query by cllr Tom McDonnell about the project’s budget, the council official stated that the extension alone had been costed at €306,000 alone but the project had no budget currently.

The Chief Executive's Part 8 report, which has been progressed by the council, detailed the proposed development and addressed planning, environmental, and community considerations.

During the discussion, cllr McDonnell also asked if the proposed development would include solar panels, to which the council official answered that it would not due to financial constraints and an effort to keep costs down on the development.

The absence of solar was “disappointing” for cllr Chris Pender as he expressed discontent that the plans did not include provisions for installing solar panels.

He felt it was a missed opportunity to incorporate renewable energy solutions into the development to increase its BER rating which is set to be B1/B2 after the build.

That being said, cllr Chris Pender later acknowledged that the proposed development would be a “fantastic opportunity” for a family
