Kildare Costa lodge drive-thru plans
Costa in Naas
COSTA Coffee at the Globe Retail Park could be extending their café to include a drive-thru to accommodate on-the-go shoppers.
MBCC Foods (Ireland) Ltd has lodged plans seeking permission to add a drive-thru facility to the existing Costa Coffee outlet at Globe Retail Park on Monread Road in Naas.
According to the planning application, the proposed development would include the construction of a new drive-thru lane on the southern side of the existing café, complete with a canopy, service hatch and a 3.5-metre-wide drive-thru lane, as well as associated hard and soft landscaping works.
The plans also provide for internal alterations to the existing Costa Coffee unit, changes to all external elevations, including replacement tenant signage, and the installation of drive-thru signage such as directional signs, an order station and two menu board advertisement signs.
A minor extension of approximately nine square metres to the existing unit is also proposed, along with an expansion of the bin storage area.
The development would also involve new directional road markings and changes to the existing car park layout, resulting in the loss of 20 parking spaces.
The applicant maintains that the development would only enhance the established café and provide convenience for customers, but hold that the intention is to maintain the “sit-in character” of the shop.
It also said that the drive-thru would “contribute positively to the overall vitality and amenity of Globe Retail Park, reinforcing its role as a key commercial destination in Naas".
Kildare County Council is due to make a decision on the proposed development on 18 August 2026.
