Kildare County Council reached its compulsory purchase order (CPO) commencement target for 2026 six months ahead of schedule as part of efforts to tackle vacancy and dereliction in the county.
The council’s July Chief Executive’s Report states the local authority’s target of commencing nine compulsory purchases or compulsory acquisitions under the CPO Activation Programme had been achieved by June.
The council said it has met or exceeded its annual targets every year since the programme was launched in 2023.
According to council figures, the local authority commenced 11 CPOs in 2025.
Separately, The Journal reported that the council acquired seven properties via CPO in 2025 for housing purposes.
It is not yet clear how many CPO acquisitions the council has completed in 2026, either for housing or other purposes.
The council has been contacted for details of any CPO acquisitions completed in 2026 and for further information on the nine CPOs commenced this year.
