MEMBERS of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District have voted in favour of introducing live streaming for their meetings, marking a move aimed at increasing transparency and public access to local politics and decision-making.

The matter was raised for consideration following a referral from a recent Full Council meeting, where the potential for broadcasting proceedings was discussed.

Elected members subsequently held a vote on the proposal, with the outcome confirming support for live streaming.

“We’re going live!” said cathaoirleach Noel Heavey after the vote was decided.

The decision means that future Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meetings could be made accessible to the public in real time, allowing residents to follow discussions and decisions remotely.

However, as cllr Chris Pender noted in the meeting, two more municipal district must agree to the livestreaming for it to be adopted at any Kildare County Council municipal district meetings.
