Kildare estate to be taken in charge

Áras Chill Dara in Naas

Locals in Johnstown are being invited to have their say on plans by Kildare County Council to take a housing estate in charge.

The local authority is seeking to take in charge St John’s Grove, with plans to assume responsibility for the estate’s roads, footpaths, public lighting, open spaces and surface water systems.

Taking an estate in charge means responsibility for these services transfers to the local authority. The process is typically carried out once the council is satisfied that works within an estate meet the required standard.

Details of the proposal, including maps, are available on the council’s consultation portal and can be inspected at the Planning, Enterprise & Economic Development Department in Áras Chill Dara, Naas, from 1 to 30 September 2026.

Submissions and objections can be made through the council’s consultation portal or in writing to the council’s Development Control Section. The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
