A MAN who breached a court-issued protection order taken out by his parents was put on a 12-month peace bond for urinating in their back garden.

The man who can’t be named appeared in Athy District Court from custody on his 30th birthday following the breach at an address at an address in Kildare a week earlier.

Sergeant Dave Hanrahan explained how his parents had taken out the protection order earlier this year but he breached it by climbing over a wall before relieving himself in their garden on 14 July.

The defendant’s solicitor Jackie McManus explained how her client “has a huge issue with his mental health, and is in the psychiatric unit in Naas (General Hospital)”.

“I could send you to jail for the two separate breaches,” Judge Desmond Zaidan warned the defendant, although there was only evidence of one of these breaches given in court.

“Your mam and dad love you, respect them,” he advised.

“You wouldn’t like a stranger to do this to your mam and dad,” he said, deciding to place the defendant on a peace bond for 12 months.

“If you’re seen urinating in public that will be deemed a breach of the peace, and I’ll send you to jail for two years,” he warned.

“If you don’t get on with your parents, move out."
