“IT always seems to happen in the middle of the week,” sighed defence solicitor Seamus Boyle, as he tried in vain to defend an absent client who then got fined €500.
He was speaking of his client Peter Maher (55), Kilmeague, Naas who was due to appear in Naas District Court recently, but after multiple callings it was became apparent he was a no-show.
Mr Maher was charged with four counts of public order breaches, two for public intoxication, and two for threatening/abusive/insulting behaviour.
“On 11 April (literally, the day after Mr Maher’s 55th birthday) at the bus station in Newbridge Mr Maher was highly intoxicated and abusive,” explained Sergeant Dave Hanrahan.
“Later that evening he came into Newbridge Garda Station and was again very abusive while highly intoxicated,” he said.
“He has 43 previous convictions,” he added.
Noting the no-show, despite the numerous callings, Judge Desmond Zaidan decided to remove this case from his very busy workload.
“Two Section 4s (public intoxication), €250 each, the two Section 6s (threatening/abusive/insulting behaviour) taken into consideration,” said the judge to Mr Boyle.
