Kildare meals on wheel deliver over 60,000 meals last year

MEALS on Wheels services across Kildare delivered an impressive 63,873 meals in 2024, with nearly 40,000 of those provided in Kildare South alone, according to new figures released through a parliamentary question raised by Deputy Mark Wall.
These figures average out at 1,228 meals served per week to people in Kildare.
The county is home to 11 Meals on Wheels services, playing a crucial role in supporting elderly and vulnerable residents by delivering hot meals directly to their homes.
The full parliamentary reply, which contains a breakdown of figures for each service across Kildare, highlights the significant demand for the program.
The 11 services highlighted were Allenwood Day Care, Celbridge Community Council, Leixlip MOW, Maynooth Day Care, Monasterevin Day Care, Naas MOW C/O Trustus, Rathangan Daycare, Soroptomist International North Kildare MOW, St Vincents Hospital, Athy, SVP Kildare – St Conleth’s Day Care, and SVP Newbridge.
The service with the highest amount of meals sent out in 2024 was St Vincents Hospital in Athy with a count of 11,276 meals per year, showing the demand for these services in our county.
