AUDACIOUS plans have been announced to turn part of the Curragh Plains into a military theme park.
The park aims to offer an immersive experience for visitors with virtual helicopter flights and tank missions, with wraparound 3-D goggles to give the full immersive experience.
There will be an indoor shooting range, but limited to small bore ammunition and pellets, however there will also be a laser range to give visitors the feel of heavier calibre weapons from all ages of the 100-year history of our military.
For those of us who remember the days of the FCA, there is also an orienteering option sol you can get lost again in the Glen of Imaal, with your boots getting fuller of bog water the longer it takes you to get back to base while a drill sergeant ‘encourages’ you on.
Department of Defence spokesperson Amadán Ní Sceál said little flourishes like decking out the sheep on the Curragh in camouflage were also being considered.
Ms Ní Sceál hoped the theme park would boost recruitment numbers in the defence forces along with providing a great family day out.
