GARDAÍ have urged drivers to reduce their speed and obey road limits as National Slow Down Day commenced this morning, Monday, September 1.
In Donadea, a 60 km/h zone, members of the Naas Roads Policing Unit detected a number of motorists travelling at dangerously high speeds.
Offences recorded included vehicles travelling at 100 km/h, 92 km/h, and 91 km/h. Each driver was issued with a €160 fine and three penalty points.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that speed enforcement operations will continue throughout Kildare and Carlow today as part of the national campaign.
“As we commence National Slow Down Day, we remind all motorists to reduce speed and drive within the legal limits,” a garda spokesperson said.
National Slow Down Day is part of ongoing efforts by Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority to highlight the dangers of speeding and reduce the number of collisions on Irish roads.
