A MAN who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend after he went at her car with a hammer, is to spend Christmas and New Year behind bars after he was remanded back into custody.
Marius Corbu (42), of The Springs, Jersey Lane, Allenwood appeared in Naas by videolink from Cloverhill on Thursday where he has been on remand since 1 December.
It is alleged that on 29 November “at a location within the State, is the Court District of Kildare” he allegedly did €1,000 damage to her Volvo with a hammer.
“There is CCTV available,” said Sergeant Dave Hanrahan.
Then the following day it is alleged he perpetrated a “very serious assault on his partner between Newbridge and Athy, leaving her with a black eye".
“The file is not complete,” said the sergeant, which prompted solicitor Dave Powderley to protest: “My client has been locked up for a month”.
Judge Desmond Zaidan reminded Mr Powderley that he had gone into custody on 1 December, 17 days previously.
The judge then remanded Mr Corbu back into custody until 6 January.
“If you get High Court bail before 6 January, it is your responsibility to be here on that day”.
