PLANS have been lodged for a series of upgrade works at Coláiste Lorcáin in Castledermot.
The application seeks permission to replace the existing double-height external timber screens and doors to the school’s gym hall with a new glazed curtain walling system incorporating solid aluminium spandrel panels and doors.
It is also proposed to replace the current high-level external single-glazed system in the gym with a double-glazed curtain wall system, improving energy efficiency and natural light.
In addition, the plans provide for the installation of two air source heat pumps, each to be enclosed within 2.8-metre-high perimeter screen enclosures.
The development also includes the installation of a electric vehicle charging (EVC) unit, along with a local electrical enclosure, distribution board and a dual car charging outlet.
The works form part of the Department of Education & Youth’s Climate Action RePowerEU Schools Energy Retrofit Pathfinder Programme, which supports energy efficiency and decarbonisation in the school sector, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering energy consumption.
