Kildare TD Patricia Ryan announces general election bid as Independent

Patricia Ryan will run as an Independent in Kildare South

FOLLOWING her shock resignation from Sinn Fein during the week, Kildare South’s sitting TD Patricia Ryan from Monasterevin released a statement in which she confirmed she will contest the next election as an Independent candidate.

“After a period of deep thought and introspection I have decided to step down as a member of Sinn Féin,” she confirmed.

“This has not been an easy decision to take, and I have spent many days and nights wondering if this is indeed the best course of action.

“I have consulted family and friends, past and current colleagues, and mentors.

“Following this period of reflection, I feel the party and I have come to differ on several issues I hold close to my heart. I will now be moving forward as an Independent TD.

“Over the last 15 years, I have honed my political instincts and skills from grass roots level to representing the people of Kildare South in Dáil Éireann, a privilege I value highly.

“I will continue as an Independent TD in the current Dáil, and I am committed to seeking re-election in the next election, whenever that is.

She concluded: “The people of Kildare South deserve better housing, better health services, and a decent, affordable standard of living, and I am fully committed to continuing to advocate for them as their TD now and into the future.”
