THE brutal assault of a young Kildare boy was recorded and shared.

The 14-year-old suffered a broken arm following the horrific incident on Friday evening.

The mother of the victim spoke with the Kildare Nationalist about the assault which see her son in plaster for up to 10 weeks.

“He was down in the park around 6.20pm when four of them dragged him off the swing and started beating him,” said his mother.

“I got sent a video of the assault, which is a very hard watch.” The Kildare Nationalist has seen the video which shows the victim lying prone on the ground in the playground after he was dragged from the swings.

At least four assailants took turns in hitting him. Only one of these was fist-punching, while the other three aimed vicious kicks at his torso and head, with the final kick landing square on the victim’s nose from a run-up.

The injured youth is taunted as the assault takes place.

“I know the names and the guards are involved. They’re aged from 15 down to 11.

“I got a voicemail on Friday evening about it, and when I got there he couldn’t move his arm.

“And he’s a Type 1 diabetic which is worse.

“A stranger rang me to say your son is after getting attacked, so I drove down (to the town park).

“There was four adults there and my son’s girlfriend who watched it all was very upset.

“The adults told me they knocked him off the swing and started in on him. Then they left, but one of the boys ran back and kicked him straight in the head.

“He’s lucky he didn’t get a brain injury.

“He has a broken elbow, and had to get surgery on Sunday.

“We are waiting to make a statement, and there is an officer ready to talk with us.

“There were four in the attack, and though you can only see three of them in the video, we have their names.” The woman spoke of her gratitude after receiving a message of support from Edward Gibbons, the father of Ryan Weir Gibbons who died following a separate assault in the town last October."

She added: “Some of the other parents have made contact with (the named victim’s) dad, and one of them already brought their son to the guards, but some of the mothers are after getting on to the woman who published their names of those involved online.

“I’m waiting for the guards to call me back with an update, but they have to wait for the full medical report before going to the DPP.

“One of the assailants actually called (named victim) to say ‘sorry, I never meant it to go that far’.

“He has screws on both sides of his arm, and it is locked out to keep straight.

“There was a chip off the elbow bone which had to be removed, and recovery could take up to 10 weeks.

“We want all four charged. If they’re big enough to do the kicking, they’re big enough to face the consequences.”

A garda spokesperson said confirmed investigation were ongoing.
