As it stands, Alex Beirne will be suspended for next Sunday's clash against Cavan but Brian Flanagan confirmed that Kildare will be looking at the possibility of getting that decision overturned

Manager Brian Flanagan confirmed that Kildare will explore every avenue to appeal the red card shown to Alex Beirne during the first half of Saturday evening's defeat to Derry.

Referee David Gough was a busy man in Cedral St Conleths Park and had already shown a red card to Derry captain Conor Glass, after just six minutes, and a black card to his team-mate Niall Loughlin when a flashpoint in the 25th minute led to Beirne's dismissal and another black card to Conor Doherty.

Speaking in the immediate aftermath of the game, Flanagan confirmed that Kildare would be looking at their options.

“I think there was a lot of little incidents and flashpoints pretty much from that first red card all the way through until half-time and I think we’ll learn from it and the players will learn from it but from our point of view and from talking to Alex there wasn’t a whole lot in that and the reaction (of the Derry player) was what the reaction was but we didn’t see a whole lot. We’ll review properly now in the next few hours but at this point we’ll still be hopeful of overturning that.”

If any appeal was unsuccessful that would leave last year's Tailteann Cup Player of the Year Beirne facing a suspension for next Sunday's clash against Cavan.
