Policing in Co Kildare has been bolstered with 15 probationer gardaí set to join the ranks.

It follows today’s attestation of 206 gardaí in Templemore.

Nine probationers are to be based in Leixlip with Naas getting three, Newbridge securing two and one for Kildare Town.

Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl said: “These new recruits will strengthen frontline policing and help keep our communities safe. Wishing them every success as they begin their service with An Garda Síochána.”

Party colleague, Minister James Lawless, commended the number of gardaí moving to Naas and Leixlip.

"Both towns have grown significantly in recent years, and additional Garda presence on the ground is something residents and local businesses have consistently raised with me. Nine new Gardaí for Leixlip and three for Naas is a welcome strengthening of policing across Kildare North.

"I want to acknowledge the work of Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O'Callaghan, and the Garda Commissioner in maintaining a steady stream of recruitment through the Garda College. Sustained intakes like this one are what allow Garda numbers to build in communities like ours.

There have been three Garda recruitment campaigns in the last eighteen months.
