A WOMAN who allegedly poured petrol through a neighbour’s letterbox will have to return to court in a fortnight to learn if the DPP has ruled on where she is to stand trial.

Appearing in Naas District Court to face two charges of criminal damage and an unrelated theft was Laura Tynan (38), of Anne Street, Prosperous, who appeared from custody by videolink from the Dóchas Women’s Prison at the second time of asking. She hadn’t been on the warden’s initial list for the morning videolink attendance, and so her case was left for second calling while the administrative glitch was ironed out.

“In custody? For a bottle of whiskey?” said Judge Desmond Zaidan when she eventually appeared, holding up the first docket, before Sergeant Dave Hanrahan reminded him that the defendant had allegedly “poured accelerant in a neighbour’s door”.

“Oh, okay,” remembered the judge.

“That’s a major offence,” he commented of the incident that was alleged to have happened on 8 October in Prosperous.

“If you remember, you had set a bond at €2,000, but she doesn’t want you to reduce it, because she’s doing well in there,” said the defendant’s solicitor Tim Kennelly.

“She’s looking to get into treatment, and she’s looking very well. Well done, Laura,” commented Mr Kennelly.

The judge acceded to Mr Kennelly’s request and remanded her back into custody until 20 November “for direction” and reminded him: “You still have consent to bail.”
