Kildare woman charged with drug & money laundering offences sent forward for trial

A KILDARE woman was sent forward for trial to the 17 February sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court on drug-related offences.

Garda Lisa Murray served a book of evidence on Genna Bennett, Beech Drive, The Friary, Castledermot when she appeared at Portlaoise District Court last week.

The 31-year-old is charged with possessing cannabis for her own use and to possessing cannabis for sale or for supply on 8 July at Debbicot, Mountmellick. She is also charged with possessing a controlled drug with a market value of €13,000 or more for the purpose of sale or supply and with laundering €1,760 in cash on the same occasion.

In sending Ms Bennett forward for trial, Judge Susan Fay issued her with a warning that she must notify gardaí in writing within 14 days if she wished to rely on an alibi in her defence.

Judge Fay approved free legal aid and assigned a solicitor and two counsel to the case.
