Kildare woman wins US teaching award

A Kildare teacher is off to the US to learn and teach after being awarded the prestigious Fullbright FLTA award.
Melissa Scully from Mountrice, Monasterevin graduated with First Class Honours from the Froebel Department at Maynooth University as a primary school teacher.
She was awarded the highly prestigious Froebel Gift Award for her commitment to the philosophy of Friedrich Froebel in her teaching.
She teaches in Gaelscoil Éadan Doire, where her passion for Irish culture is shared daily with local children.
Her commitment to the Irish language and heritage is most evident in her class’s recent All-Ireland winning drama Stair ó Bhun go Barr, which she wrote and directed.
As a talented fiddle player, school sports leader and MA student of Applied Linguistics, Melissa’s dedication to excellence is fostered every day in her classroom. Melissa has also tutored in Irish Language Adult Education.
Melissa looks forward to inspiring students at the University of Montana in the upcoming academic year as a Fulbright FLTA awardee and she anticipates the opportunity of returning to Ireland with a wealth of new experience and knowledge.
