Kildare's Barrow Blueway nears completion
An official opening is expected later this year
THE BARROW Blueway project is so close to being delivered, with works now largely complete and an official opening targeted for later this year, subject to final accreditation.
In response to a query from cllr Kevin Duffy at the most recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, Kildare County Council confirmed that the Blueway has already secured Stage 1 accreditation and is progressing toward the next phase.
According to a report issued by the council, it is currently working in partnership with Waterways Ireland to complete the installation of required signage along the route.
All major infrastructure elements including towpaths, road crossings and a bridge have now been completed.
The council is also advancing legal agreements with Laois County Council and Waterways Ireland, which are necessary for the next stage of accreditation.
Officials say the intention is to formally open the Barrow Blueway towards the end of this year, provided the remaining accreditation requirements are met.
