A VERY well attended selection convention in the Clanard Court Hotel in Athy on Friday night (12 July) saw Senator Mark Wall nominated to contest the forthcoming general election in Kildare South for the Labour Party.
He was proposed by cllr Aoife Breslin and seconded by cllr Mark Leigh; his nomination was unanimously approved by all those present. He said it was his “great honour” to accept the nomination.
“We all know that a general election must be called before March of next year, some suggest that it will happen this November, whether it is in four month or eight months we will be prepared and ready and willing to serve the voters of Kildare South,” he said.
“At a time when government are presiding over billions in a budget surplus, it is the decisions and choices that the next government will make which will determine the quality of life for us all here in Kildare South. Will the next government properly invest in our youth, in education, in health and in social welfare? Will they take care of those who have laboured long and hard to make the country what it is today? Will they house people and work towards a more equal and inclusive society?
“These are the choices facing any incoming government and I want to use my experience to ensure that the next elected government will not forget the challenges that face so many of us on a daily basis here in Kildare South.”
