Lack of study spaces at temporary Kildare library
Liffey Lodge
CONCERNS over the lack of study facilities at the temporary Newbridge Library location were raised at a recent meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.
Cllr Noel Connolly asked the council what mitigation measures are being put in place for students and adult learners who previously relied on study spaces in Newbridge Library, particularly during exam periods.
In response, Kildare Library Service acknowledged the importance of quiet and accessible study areas for students and lifelong learners, especially in the lead-up to examinations.
However, the council said that due to space limitations at the temporary Newbridge Library premises at Liffey Lodge, it has not been possible to provide dedicated study facilities at the location.
As an interim measure, library users seeking study space are being directed to alternative nearby facilities, including Naas Library and Cultural Centre and Kildare Town Library, both of which currently provide designated study areas. Staff at Newbridge Library are advising users about these options and providing information on opening hours and availability.
The council noted that the current Newbridge Library is operating from a temporary location while construction continues on the new Newbridge Library, County Archives and Local Studies building.
According to the report, the new facility will include dedicated on-site study areas for students and adult learners once completed.
Kildare Library Service said it regrets any inconvenience caused during the temporary arrangement and thanked library users for their understanding while works continue.
