Landmark wins for Sallins and Milltown

Intermediate side Sallins secured the win they needed to make sure of a place in the SFL Division 1 semi-finals when Jamie Cox scored both goals as they they beat bottom of the table Allenwood by 2-22 to 0-16.
It’s a huge achievement for the Jonathan Daniels’ managed outfit to finish in the top four ahead of Senior Championship teams such as Athy and Celbridge.
The win for Sallins meant that wins for both those teams mentioned proved futile.
Athy inflicted a 7-15 1-16 defeat on Moorefield. That rounded off a miserable league season for Moorefield who won just four of their 11 games.
Celbridge beat Maynooth by 1-16 to 0-15 but it’s Maynooth who have the last laugh as they finish in second place in the league.
Sarsfields top the league after being given a walk over by Clane. Naas complete the top four in third place after they started life under new manager Philly McMahon with a 5-11 to 0-13 win over St Laurences.

Despite both Laurences and Moorefield losing, Leixlip couldn’t take advantage and their 1-18 to 2-12 loss to Raheens means they drop down to Division 2 along with Allenwood.
Coming up, Milltown made sure they would be joining Johnstownbridge in being promoted to Division 1 with a 4-13 to 0-14 win over Clogherinkoe. Another fantastic achievement for a team who have come in leaps and bounds in recent years. Alan Dignam, Joe Dunne, Ben Curran and Calum Murrphy scored the goals in a famous win.
That meant that Round Towers’ 2-16 to 2-10 win over Kilcock mattered little at the top of the table, but it was a result that consigns Kilcock to relegation to Division 3 along with fellow Senior Championship team Clogherinkoe.
Castledermot were the other team who went into the last round of games deep in relegation trouble but although they went down 2-16 to 1-14 to Two Mile House, Kilcock’s defeat meant they were safe.
Junior Championship side Grangenolvin have been one of the real eye catchers in Division 2 this year and although their campaign ended in defeat, there is no shame in a slender one point loss away to table toppers Johnstownbridge, 1-16 to 1-15.
Elsewhere, in two mid-table battles that had no impact on either end of the table, Carbury and Rathangan beat Eadestown and Confey respectively.
