ON Monday morning (30 June) Naas Gardaí stopped a learner driver on the M7 and uncovered multiple offences following the stop.
Gardaí stopped a driver initially for using a mobile phone while driving, but that was just the start.
It turned out the driver only had a learner permit, was not displaying L plates, and was driving unaccompanied.
Moreover, because the stop was on the motorway, which learner drivers are not allowed to use, another charge was added to the overall ticket.
As a result, the vehicle was seized on the spot.
With these offences, the driver is now heading downhill fast to seven penalty points – the exact number that triggers a six-month disqualification for learner drivers.
“Let this be a reminder, learner rules exist for a reason. Know them, follow them, and stay safe,” said a garda spokesperson.
