LIDL has submitted a planning application for the construction of a new, larger store in Newbridge.

The development that would replace the retailer’s existing premises on the same site on the Athgarvan Road.

Under the proposal, the current single storey store—measuring 1,746 sq m—would be demolished to make way for a part single, part two storey supermarket incorporating an off licence, internal mezzanine plant deck, and expanded facilities. 

The new building would increase the gross floor area to 2,556 sq m, with a larger net retail space of 1,742 sq m, reflecting Lidl’s ongoing programme of modernising its store network.

The plans also include a full redevelopment of the site layout, with redesigned vehicular and pedestrian access, upgraded parking, EV charging points, cycle parking.

If approved, it significantly upgrade Lidl’s presence in one of its busiest Kildare towns.
