A MAN who allegedly assaulted his ex girlfriend and then locked her and her infant child into a bathroom for over three hours, was sent for trial from Naas District Court last week.

The man in his 20s who can’t be named to protect the identity of the injured party, has been charged with a total of 20 offences.

These included five alleged breaches of a safety order against another person in 2024, which were adjourned until 7 October to be seen if they are added to the indictment for which he was appearing in court this week.

The other 15 include several assault causing harm offences, false imprisonment, and coercive control at an address in Naas on a number of dates between 17 June and 21 July.

“He went to the apartment of his ex, assaulted her whilst armed with a knife,” said Sergeant James Kearney.

“He locked the injured party and her child in the bathroom for three hours, then brought the injured party to the living room and assaulted her again."

After the book of evidence was formally handed over by the state to the defendant’s solicitor Dave Powderley, Judge Desmond Zaidan gave the man his alibi warning.

“If on one of these days you were down in Cork or somewhere, if you’ve got these names you’ve got to give them to the gardaí within 14 days,” said the judge.

As bail had already been refused both in the district court and the high court, Judge Zaidan remanded him back into custody until his trial at the next sittings of Naas Circuit Court which begin on 7 October.
