The case was heard at Naas District Court

A MAN who allegedly raped a woman he met off an escort website was sent forward for trial last week (21 May) to the present sittings of the Central Criminal Court (CCC).

The 23-year-old man, who can’t be named at this stage, appeared in Naas District Court for presentation of his Book of Evidence, which the formality that must occur when a case is being sent forward from the district to a higher court.

Allegations

The man was accompanied in court by a solicitor from Limerick where he now lives, despite giving a Co Kildare address on the charge sheet.

Judge Desmond Zaidan asked Sergeant Dave Hanrahan to remind him of the facts of the case.

The sergeant alleged that at an address in Naas town centre at 11.50pm on 18 April 2022 when the defendant was 19, “he sexually assaulted her”.

“He pulled her towards him, hugged her roughly, then forced her to give him oral sex,” he read.

“He then raped her vaginally, with penetration,” he continued.

“How did the defendant meet this woman?” asked the judge.

“She was an ad on an escort page,” said the sergeant.

“Was the injured party an adult?” asked the judge.

“Yes, judge she was over 30 at the time,” said Sgt Hanrahan.

The man will now go on to be tried on three counts contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Act at the present sittings of the CCC.
