Man charged with possession of explosives in Laois wants his case to be heard in Northern Ireland

ONE of the two men charged with the possession of explosives after being arrested during a cross-border anti-terrorism operation is seeking that his case be heard in Northern Ireland.
Both men appeared before Portlaoise District Court by video link from Cloverhill Remand Prison today (Thursday).
Counsel for Garrett Pollock (35) from Kilhorne Green, Annalong, Co Down, David Nugent BL, informed Judge Andrew Cody that his client is seeking to “exercise his right to have his case heard in the North of Ireland.” Mr Pollock is charged with one count of possessing explosives at O’Moore Place, Portlaoise on 5 November and one count of possessing explosives at an address at Kilhorne Green, Co Down on 6 November.
Judge Cody noted that Mr Pollock was consenting to be remanded in custody to the 12 January sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Karolis Peckauskas (38) of Newfoundwell Road, Drogheda, Co Louth is charged with knowingly having in “his possession an explosive substance” at O’Moore Place, Portlaoise.
His solicitor Barry Fitzgerald told Judge Cody that his client was also consenting to be remanded in custody to the 12 January sitting of the court.
Judge Cody remanded the defendant in custody until then for directions from the director of public prosecutions.
