Man stole energy drinks from Kildare service station

A MAN who stole energy drinks worth €18.90 from a Castledermot service station told Carlow District Court that he had been battling problems with gambling, drink and drugs, but had turned his life around and was starting a new job the following day.
Adam Lambe (27), Apartment 5, Orwell Grove, The Avenue, Dublin 6 appeared before Judge Geraldine Carthy.
His solicitor was not present on the day, but Mr Lambe told the court he wanted to “deal with matters” anyway.
The court heard that on Wednesday 15 November 2023 at 10.40am, a male entered the Three Counties service station in Castledermot with a female and took four cans of Red Bull, valued at €3.95 each, and one can of Monster, to a total value of €18.90.
He put the cans in his pocket, went to the counter, but left without paying.
Garda Brady told the court that Mr Lambe was identified through the registration number of his car and from this an identification was made from CCTV footage.
The defendant has 27 previous convictions, including one previous conviction for theft. His last appearance before a court was in July 2025 for possession.
“Do you remember the date in question?” Judge Carthy asked Mr Lambe.
He replied: “At the time, I was going through a lot of problems with gambling, drinking and drugs. Since the last incident, I’ve been looking for a job for the last six months and I’m starting a new job tomorrow. I go to the gym every day and do a lot of running.”
“Do you have money with you?” asked Judge Carthy. Mr Lambe said he had €20, which the judge directed be put in the court poor box.
Judge Carthy convicted and fined Mr Lambe €101, with 90 days to pay, adding: “Take care of yourself.”
