Man who died after he was struck by his own van in Co Sligo named locally

A pedestrian who died after he was struck by his own van in Grange, Co Sligo, on Saturday afternoon has been named locally as Paul Gallagher (47) who was a native of Grange.
The incident happened near Luke's Bridge in the Gortnaleck area at around 3.55pm on Saturday on a road with a steep incline.
Gallagher, who was a married father of two and was the owner of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road where the collision happened was closed for a technical examination and has since reopened.
Locals described Gallagher as ‘a true gentleman’ who loved motorsport.
He has recently opened his own business, Paul Gallagher Carpentry, which locals said had been going very well.
Tragically, his business posted on social media just hours before his tragic passing, showing some recent products from his workshop.
It read ‘’A few recent projects we’ve been working on at Paul Gallagher Carpentry. It’s been a while since my last post, but we’ve been flat out behind the scenes! Here’s a look at some recent work — from flooring and doors to bespoke carpentry projects.
"A big thank you to all our customers, old and new, for the continued support. It’s always appreciated."
Paying tribute, one family friend wrote ‘’Our deepest heartfelt condolences to Louise, Donnacha & Lauren and also to Hughie, Catherine, Orla & Clodagh on the devastating loss of your lovely Paul.
"He was one of Grange's true gentlemen. We are holding you all close in our hearts at this incredibly difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis’’.
Gallagher is survived by his wife Louise, son Donnacha and daughter Lauren. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
Gallagher is the 127th person to lose their life on Irish roads this year 17 more than the same period last year.
An appeal for witnesses has been issued, and gardaí have asked road users who were travelling in the area between 3.30pm and 4pm and who may have dash cam footage to make it available to them.
