Senator Mark Wall was elated in Kildare South after a very intense final count day in Kildare South.

He said: “It’s a good day for Labour party ... It’s the best feeling ever I’d say. It’s absolutely brilliant to get over the line. There's so many people I wish to thank. We ran a great campaign and we had so many new people out, and so many people came back to the Labour party and helped out."

He added: "I want to thank those people so much, because without them, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Senator Wall’s goal for the next government is to try form a coalition with the left.

“The priority was to get over the line, which we’ve done so now we have to go back and do the numbers.

"We have to look to the left to see how many people want to come together, and prioritise public services, prioritise housing. The government have forgotten about that over the last number of years.”

Following the result, Senator Wall and supporters were off for a deserved celebration.

“I don’t know how we’re going to celebrate but the most important thing is that we’re going out and we’re celebrating and it’s so great to have so many people to celebrate with. I think we’re going back to the town and going to two or three of the local hostelries and take it from there!”
