Calls to regularise parking in the town
Maximum stay parking could be introduced to Kilcullen

Kilcullen Main Street

Kilcullen might introduce max stay parking of two to three hours to the town in the future, following discussions at the latest Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting.

Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer called on Kildare County Council to begin the process of introducing parking bye-laws on Main Street, Kilcullen, in an effort to regularise parking in the area.

In a response issued by the Transport Department, the council confirmed that it will consider the potential for implementing such bye-laws.

However, officials noted that any introduction of parking regulations would require the approval of council members and would likely extend beyond Main Street to mitigate any negative impact on surrounding residential areas and local amenities.

Cllr O’Dwyer explained to elected representatives that the introduction of a max stay policy will, in time, improve tourism to the town, as visitors will most likely stay in the town to visit sites and restaurants if there is adequate parking.

Though all in agreement, some councillors discussed the introduction of paid parking to combat the issue of over-parking in the town. However, it was determined by the council that this option would not make the most economical sense for the size of the town and the resources available.
