MAYNOOTH Education Campus became the second Kildare school to reach the 2024/25 Bro Bosco Cup semi-final when they defeated Colaiste Choilm, Tullamore in a low scoring quarter final in Daingean, Co Offaly on Saturday afternoon.
The Maynooth Schools will now face Scoil Mhuire, Mullingar in one semi-final while Ard Scoil na Trionoide, Athy will face Moate in the other.
A game that was played in a continuous drizzle on a pitch that was difficult, to say the least, meant scores were hard to come by and it was the Tullamore School who only led 0-2 to 0-1 at the break. Maynooth Schools drew level in the 47th minute with a long range free from goalkeeper, Josh Flood. The Kildare Schools’ team took the lead in the 52nd minute with a point from a free from corner forward, Liam Jennings, after Colaiste Choilm goalkeeper, Ciaran Owens, was adjudged to have picked the ball off the ground.
Jennings became the hero among heroes for the Maynooth side when he scored a goal and a point inside the last four minutes of the game. The point came from play in the 56th minute and the victory was sealed with the goal from the kick out when he was put through by Paul O’Dea.
The Tullamore school couldn’t add to their two first half points, both from centre half forward, Ciaran Bourke, frees after Finn Conheady had opened the scoring with a Maynooth point in the 7th minute.
It was a brave performance from the Maynooth players who played with tenacity and no little intelligence throughout.
