Curragh-based trainer Willie McCreery saw 16/1 shot Jancis finish a close second in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes on the second day of Royal Ascot today.
Blue Bolt, trained by Andrew Balding, with Irish jockey Colin Keane on board, won the race but McCreery’s Jancis was just a length and a quarter behind.
Jancis, with Sean Levey in the saddle, tracked the winner into the straight from just inside the twoâfurlong marker and finished on strongly.
“She has done herself proud,” said former Kildare GAA star McCreery, after the race.
“She loves this fast ground – it cannot go fast enough for her. She kept galloping to the end there. A good filly beat us, but we will take her on again. We will be all Group 1s from here on and hopefully get the fast ground.
“That is the first time Sean has gone down the inside with her. He was delighted – delighted by the way she travelled and delighted with the way she quickened. He thought he had the measure a furlong down, but the filly just kept quickening in front.”
