Moorefield completed the perfect end to their round robin campaign with a comfortable eight point win over Clane. After Maynooth went down to Kilcock both teams have now qualified for the knockout stages. Goals in either half from Jason Phillips and Dan O'Callaghan assured the Moores of top spot.
Clane opened the scoring through Brian McLoughlin inside the opening minute but three in a row from Evan O Brien, Ryan Houlihan and Harry O Connor had Moorefield two up after eight minutes. Clane were struggling to break down a solid Moorefield defence and it was nine minutes in before Sam McCormack landed a point from distance. The next three scores were all Moorefield.Mark Murray converted a free before a delightful 30 metre pass from Kevin Murnaghan pass set up Jason Phillips for a brilliant goal.
Clane finished the half with three of their own but they still trailed by four 1-6 to 0-5 .Danny Egan,Hugh Prendergast and Adam Fanning all added much needed Clane points.
The introduction of Shane O'Sullivan at half time had an immediate effect as he point straight from the throw in. Moorefied settled back into their rhythm and three in a row pushedtge gap out to six.
Clane responded with two Sam McCormack points but a much needed goal never looked likely.
Moorefield finished the stronger and a long ball to the towering Dan O'Callaghan saw him shoot past Cian Burke to put the icing on an impressive win.
The win sets up a Newbridge derby between Moorefield and Sarsfields in the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere in Group D, even though they defeated Maynooth by 3-11 to 1-13, Kilcock still finish bottom and will have to play St Laurence's in the relegation final. Clane finish second in the group and will play Eadestown in the preliminary quarter-finals.
