THE town of Kilcullen is to expect a substantial residential addition after permission was given for 70 new homes on the Naas Road.
A newish outfit called Kilcullenbridge Developments (established in 2024) applied to build a broad mix of homes – from maisonettes, to three-storey, four-bed dormer homes.
All this will start on a 1,77Ha (4.4ac) site to start, expanding to 1.98Ha (4.9ac) site bounded by the Moanbane estate on the north, Kilcullen Industrial Estate to the south, and the Naas Road to the west, and fields to the east.
The development, which was applied for in July, will also call for the construction of a sizeable 105-space car park.
This is believed to be the final phase of a 180-unit Strategic Housing Development (SHD) granted under the then legislation by An Coimisiún Pleanála above the local authority.
There were eight third-party submissions accepted by Kildare County Council in relation to the development, concerning arborial denudement, road safety and access, drainage, boundary sizes, dwelling height, and the development overlooking neighbours.
There were some professional concerns from the planners over the floor area size of each unit, considering the density. However, these fears were mollified with further information submitted.
It showed that the developers’ originally submitted plans had provision for greater floor areas (82sqm) than those recommended by department of local government's housing guidelines (80sqm).
