Naas park to get outdoor gym equipment

Monread Park in Naas is set to receive new outdoor gym equipment, with Naas Tidy Towns and Kildare County Council working together to deliver the project.
The matter was discussed at the most recent meeting of Naas Municipal District, when cllr Ger Dunne called on the council to provide ‘outdoor athletic sports equipment’ for public use in the park.
Acting senior parks and landscaping officer Simon Wallace issued the council’s response, stating that the local authority is working with Naas Tidy Towns to install outdoor gym equipment in the park after the local community group was awarded a sports capital grant to fund the project.
There was discussion at the meeting regarding the grant awarded to Naas Tidy Towns, which cllr Dunne’s Independent Ireland colleague, cllr Bill Clear, said amounted to €15,000. Cllr Clear is chairperson of Naas Tidy Towns.
Cllr Clear said it had taken four years to draw down funding from the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport. The newly elected Mayor of Naas added that it is becoming increasingly difficult to draw down funding from the department.
